Romantic Red Rocks Engagement Session

Hello friends!

What a crazy weekend! I attended the first ever Middlelands Renaissance EDM Festival at the Texas Renaissance Fairgrounds and had a blast! Unfortunately you have to have a press pass to bring a camera with you, so I lived in the present and really got to enjoy myself while I LITERALLY danced beneath the moonlight in the woods to my favorite artist's music. The positivity, love, music and fresh air all weekend was just what I needed!

Today I wanted to share a session with y’all that I am so incredibly proud of. Last month I flew up to Colorado to photograph my little sister’s engagement photos. I know plenty of you have photographed family members before (or been photographed by a family member) and understand how special moments like these are; however, when you’re photographing a sibling who had an extremely traumatic event happen less than a year ago, it makes being able to share my gift even more of a blessing than usual.

Last May 10th, exactly a year ago, Ellie (my little sister - 25 years old) suffered a severe brain AVM rupture and was in the ICU for over a month. She lost all control and feeling in the right side of her body, suffered from speech aphasia and had to have invasive brain surgery to remove the ruptured AVM. It was a very dark time for our family and the constant outpouring of love and support from our community was mind blowing. She did months of physical and mental rehab afterward and gained back the majority of her movement and speech. The doctors said it was a miracle she recovered so quickly.

She has since returned to finish her Graduate program in Environmental Sustainability and will walk the stage this weekend! Her fiancé Ryan proposed to her in December and they are currently planning their wedding. I am constantly amazed and inspired by her determination and drive. It is so incredible to see everything she has accomplished so far!

So, of course, when she and Ryan asked me to do an engagement session with them, I cried with joy! As creatives, we are so lucky to be able to serve the people we love. Being able to serve my little sister and give her the engagement session of her dreams was such a blessing, especially after the year she has been through. I absolutely put my heart and soul into these photos and I hope you all can see that. We went to multiple locations around the Red Rocks area in Colorado and the result was a beautifully poetic and romantic engagement session between to soulmates who have overcome the odds.
